Comparing Working Memory in Old World Monkeys and Humans

چکیده
There are two types of neural phenomena that have been called working memory. The first is a selective, attention demanding process. In this process, until the interrupted, memory trace has high fidelity over time. second non-selective, non-attention process where all events seem to form traces each decaying with generally thought as true in humans. We started out study substrates these monkeys. To our surprise (frustration?) we found monkeys rely primarily on type even when put situations it seems most efficacious use type. make large numbers false positive responses related time past visual stimulus was presented sequential string distractors. By way comparison, humans heavily favor memory; they almost no asked remember single index stimulus. I will review results and show how selective damage different parts monkey brain important for supporting normal function, prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, lateral inferior temporal selectively interfere aspects For physiologists raises problem: do mechanisms using if strategies solve tasks?

Slow molecular clocks in Old World monkeys, apes, and humans.
Two longstanding issues on the molecular clock hypothesis are studied in this article. First, is there a global molecular clock in mammals? Although many authors have observed unequal rates of nucleotide substitution among mammalian lineages, some authors have proposed a global clock for all eutherians, i.e., a single global rate of 2.2 x 10(-9) substitutions per nucleotide site per year. We re...
متن کاملOld World Monkeys
Old World monkeys, or cercopithecoids, are a diverse and widespread group of primates found throughout Africa and Asia. They are characterised by their specialised molar teeth, quadrupedal running behaviour, often spending more time on the ground than other primates, as well as their often large and complex social groups. They survive inthewidest rangeofhabitatsofanynonhumanprimates, with some ...
متن کاملOld World monkeys are more similar to humans than New World monkeys when playing a coordination game.
There is much debate about how humans' decision-making compares with that of other primates. One way to explore this is to compare species' performance using identical methodologies in games with strategical interactions. We presented a computerized Assurance Game, which was either functionally simultaneous or sequential, to investigate how humans, rhesus monkeys and capuchin monkeys used infor...
متن کاملEvolutionary rate variation in Old World monkeys.
We analysed over 8 million base pairs of bacterial artificial chromosome-based sequence alignments of four Old World monkeys and the human genome. Our findings are as follows. (i) Genomic divergences among several Old World monkeys mirror those between well-studied hominoids. (ii) The X-chromosome evolves slower than autosomes, in accord with 'male-driven evolution'. However, the degree of male...
